You’ve dreamed of this day for so long now. You have the perfect groom, your family and friends are there to see you walk down the aisle in a beautiful dress. As you turn your dream wedding into a reality, sometimes reality can be a little mean. Does that mean you have to bite the bullet and finance a dress, or simply let finances dictate what dress you get? How about neither?
If you have the time and creativity, you can have your dream dress! Yes, a dress custom fit to your dreams and you, for less than you would pay for a designer dress! How?
Turn something old into something new.
Restyle a dress:
- Buy a dress similar to the style you want (even if it is currently hideous or too big). Second hand stores are a great place to look. A word of caution: dresses have limitations. If you hate something that can’t be covered up or removed (Fabric, seam placement, color), you should probably keep looking. Remember, at second hand store prices, you can always buy two and combine features of both to make one perfect dress.
- Make an appointment with a good seamstress. Make sure they have experience in wedding gowns. Aunt Fay may be able to mend socks, but she may not have the skills needed to reconstruct your wedding dress. Also bring along any sketches or inspiration pictures so you’re very clear on what you want your dream dress to be.
Allow for plenty of time to shop around for dresses and keep in mind it’s a process, so it won’t be perfect in one fitting. But restyling a dress is a great way to have your dream dress and not go into debt. It’s also a lot of fun. Check out this bride’s restyle for inspiration. Or call me today for more information.
