When did you start your business? 2011
How did you start your business? Well, I had just graduated from college with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and was waiting to hear if I had been accepted into a Masters program in Atmospheric Sciences. When I got the letter saying that I didn’t get in, I wasn’t sure what I was going to do. Not long after, I made some cookies for my family and I thought, damn, I make some mighty tasty cookies! I should start a bakery! And that was it, that was the moment Afternoon Delight Bakery was born.
What do you love about weddings? Weddings are so full of happiness and love, what’s not to love?! I love getting to be part of such a beautiful celebration and such a memorable time for so many people.
What is the most rewarding part of your job? I think most bakers/cake designers would agree, the most rewarding part of this job is seeing your hours and hours of hard work culminate into a beautiful, tasty work of art and then seeing the reaction of the bride and groom and knowing you nailed it.
What is the most challenging part of your job? I would have to say the most challenging part of my job is also the most fun part, bringing the design to life. Making an idea into a sketch, and a sketch into a cake.
What do you want brides/grooms to know about you/your company? I’m a one woman show. Everything you see is done by me and I work very hard to make sure I don’t let you down. I work closely with my clients so we’re on the same page every step of the way. I’m a perfectionist. I work hard, and stress a lot, to make sure everything comes together beautifully. This is YOUR day, let’s make YOUR cake!
What are some tips that you have for a newly engaged bride? Plan ahead. Do some research and find the vendors that suit you and your style. Be open to the artistic interpretation of your cake designer and trust that they will bring your dream cake to life.
