Company Name: Past to Present Imaging
Name: Laurie Purcell
How long have you been in business? 23 Years
How did you start your business? I have been a photographer for the past 32 years, but we actually started our own business 23 years ago.
We started out transferring old films for people and progressed to photography, videography, slideshows and video production.
What do you love about weddings? Ah, weddings. Such a happy event, filled with happiness and love. I absolutely love going to weddings. This particular type of gathering is something that the world needs more of. It may seem to many people it is an empty ritual, or a ritual that is changing for the worse. To me, it is a great occasion to get dressed up and witness a ritual that is filled with so much meaning and also with a wonderful story behind the love.
Weddings in general make my heart happy. I always feel honored to be a part of the couple’s special day.
What is the most rewarding part of your job? Well, beyond being able to be a part of someone’s love story, I guess another rewarding part would be when the couple falls in love with their images as much as you have, and the joy and gratitude that you get from them is absolutely the best!
What is the most challenging part of your job? Well, one of the most frustrating things when photographing a wedding is the times when I am on a restricted time frame of taking photos of the couple. I just absolutely love when the time comes to capture images of the bride and groom and when I do not have the time that I would love to have is a bit frustrating, but we roll with the punches and make it all happen and make the best of what is thrown our way.
What do you want brides/grooms to know about you/your company? At our studio, we pride ourselves on being extremely professional and organized. From the moment you inquire with us until the moment you pick up your product, we assure you that your experience will be handled with the greatest customer care you could possibly want.
We answer all emails and phone calls in a very timely manner, so that you know as a client you are not just a number, but a valued customer.
What are some tips that you have for a newly engaged bride? Well I am going to take this opportunity to give brides some tips from the photographers aspect of the day. It is more of a photographers “wish list” if you will.
My biggest tip is that more brides would make a larger time slot for photos so we are not rushed to get through them. This is the one thing that will be left from your day that you will have forever. Set aside some good time for photos. This is something you will regret.
Unless you absolutely have to….don’t plan your portraits for the middle part of the day in the harshest light possible. If it’s something that has to be done, then we will work through it to get the best photos possible.
Keeping the bridal room somewhat tidy is another tip I would give, I know that one is hard, but it sure makes for prettier photos when it is clutter free.
A lot of couples don’t think about it and tend to turn their backs to the audience during the ring ceremony etc. and it sure makes for nicer shots when we can get the side of you instead of the back.
I could go on and on with tips, but have gotten long winded, so those are a few.
